Jonathan Becker, DO, Medical Director, Brentwood location

Dr. Becker is a native of Tennessee, born in Memphis. He completed his undergraduate and Masters degrees in Developmental Psychology at Tulane University in New Orleans before attending Des Moines University for Medical School. He completed his psychiatry residency program at Vanderbilt University and served as a faculty member there for 7 years before transitioning to our office. While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Becker served as the medical director of the neuromodulation service from 2017-2020. Dr. Becker has published many psychiatric articles.


Michelle Cochran, MD, DFAPA, Medical Director, Nashville Location

Dr. Cochran has been living and working in the Nashville area for over 25 years. She supervises the skilled Nurse Practitioners who work in our clinics. She has been offering TMS services since 2011 and lectures and consults nationally and internationally about TMS.  She is Board Certified and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.


Ryan Oakley, MD – East Nashville Location

After moving to Tennessee for training in 2018, Dr. Oakley is now a permanent Nashvillian transplant.  He completed his undergraduate degree in the intensive Program of Liberal Studies at the University of Notre Dame and received his medical degree from the Texas A&M College of Medicine. He completed his psychiatry residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  At Vanderbilt he accumulated four years of experience with thoughtful pharmacotherapy and was certified in both ECT neuromodulation at Vanderbilt Behavioral Health and Professional Mindfulness Facilitation at the OSHER center. He is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. He has experience in–and continues to be interested in– improving the quality of esketamine/spravato treatment by being thoughtful about treatment setting and preparation, as well as augmenting the treatment with psychotherapy.  He is excited to provide recovery-focused, collaborative, and personal-agency driven mental healthcare in East Nashville.


Brent Necaise, MD – East Nashville Location

After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Mississippi followed by medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2018, Dr. Necaise moved to Nashville to complete his psychiatric training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During the past four years in Nashville, he has decided to remain after completing his training and make Middle Tennessee home.  

During his training, Dr. Necaise has obtained specialized training in treating multiple treatment resistant mental health conditions through medication management and neuromodulation including ECT and TMS.  Additionally, he has a passion for serving the LGBTQ+ population with acceptance, compassion, and celebration.  He received additional training on providing specialized treatment and evaluation for gender dysphoria including gender affirming hormone treatments.

Dr. Necaise is excited to be joining NSTMS in our new East Nashville office offering hope and an improved quality of life to a diverse patient population through a variety of treatment options including esketamine and TMS.

Mary Strayhorn – Phillips, PMHNP-BC 

Mary, a PMHNP- BC, is ANCC Board Certified as an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with a BSN, and worked for more than 20 years as a registered nurse in general medicine, surgery, hospice care, and psychiatry before returning to graduate school at Vanderbilt in 2006 to obtain a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing. She has worked in varied roles including community mental health, long-term residential substance use treatment center for women and their children, and college mental health at Vanderbilt University.


Mandy Baxter, PMHNP-BC 

Mandy Baxter is an ANCC board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Mandy has been practicing in the Nashville area since 2019. She was born in Mississippi and grew up in the Memphis area. She completed her Associate in Nursing at Northwest Mississippi Community College in 2010. She then worked in various areas of nursing including critical care, surgery, and psychiatry before deciding to pursue her Master. She graduated with honors from University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2017. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Since graduation she has worked in inpatient, outpatient, and residential psychiatric settings. She sees adolescents age 14 and up and adults.


Rose Vick, PMHNP-BC 

Rose is an ANCC Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Lifespan).  Rose received her MSN from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2007 and her PhD in nursing from the University of Arizona in 2018.  She has worked within large interdisciplinary oncology teams at Norton Cancer Institute in Louisville, KY and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville.  She has extensive experience providing psychiatric services to cancer patients as they navigate diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.   She has a passion for supporting individuals through the psychological, physical and existential issues that arise as a result of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.  She is an Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and teaches in the PMHNP and DNP programs and is a peer reviewer for Neuroscience Education Institute.


Susan Swanson – Moore, PMHNP-BC

Susan is a Board Certified experienced psychiatric clinician. She graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing and was inducted in the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She and Dr Cochran met over 20 years ago. She assisted in the development and operation of the Child/Adolescent Psychiatric program at Parthenon Pavilion Psychiatric hospital many years ago and has worked in many private and hospital practices and taught new nurses at Aquinas College and Cumberland University. Susan is an integral part of the team at NSTMS and is certified to see children, adolescents and adult patients for care.


Lauren Vedros, Director of Operations

Lauren has been providing mental health care in the greater Nashville area for the last 6 years. Lauren received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Mississippi State University, where she was born and raised. She has ample experience working with our patients on a one to one level during their TMS treatments. As the Director of Operations, she strives to provide qulity care for patients, as well as focus her efforts on a seamless treatment process for the Neuroscience and TMS Treatment Centers.


Kerry Friend, Spravato Supervisor

Kerry has lived in Tennessee for almost for 5 years.  She has been a practicing LPN for 10 years.  Prior to becoming a nurse, she was a staff accountant for several large corporations in Pennsylvania where she was born and raised.  She will be working as the Spravato Lead Supervisor and Clinical Support Specialist. 


Lauren Valencia,  VNS Clinical Trial  Coordinator

Lauren Valencia, LCSW received her Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee College and started with our office in 2013 as a therapist and TMS Coordinator. She has been invited to speak at the Clinical TMS Society Annual Meeting in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 and at the PULSES workshop in 2019 (San Francisco & London). Lauren and Dr. Cochran co-wrote the Train Your Brain workbook which was adapted to the online TMSworkbook.com.

Ali Tanner Self, LCSW

Ali is a Licensed Masters of Social Worker who achieved her Masters Degree at the University of New England after graduating from Belmont University. A native of the Nashville area, Ali has a background in addiction therapy, family work, adoption, and foster, as well as trauma and DBT. Her certifications include Eating disorder treatment, CBT-i (Cognitive Behavior Therapy for insomnia), and attachment and trauma play work.
Ali’s goal for therapy is to provide a nurturing yet challenging support system, so you feel cared for and seen, while also helping you move away from the place in which you are stuck.

Emelyn Davies, Clinic Billing Manager

Emelyn is a Nashville native, born and raised. She excelled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she majored in Spanish and World Business. While involved in numerous activities, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences. Chuck Cochran, MBA, Administrator

Chuck is our back office Administrator. An MBA from Vanderbilt University and a University of Tennessee Alum, you might get a glimpse of him in the office. He is usually tucked away in the back working on accounting, insurance and operations. He is always available to help on any issue when the front office staff is busy or unavailable. Chuck is an experienced Practice and TMS Administrator, and in 2011 was certified as a TMS Operator
