Jonathan Becker, DO, Medical Director, Brentwood location
Dr. Becker is a native of Tennessee, born in Memphis. He completed his undergraduate and Masters degrees in Developmental Psychology at Tulane University in New Orleans before attending Des Moines University for Medical School. He completed his psychiatry residency program at Vanderbilt University and served as a faculty member there for 7 years before transitioning to our office. While at Vanderbilt, Dr. Becker served as the medical director of the neuromodulation service from 2017-2020. Dr. Becker has published many psychiatric articles.
Michelle Cochran, MD, DFAPA, Medical Director, Nashville Location
Dr. Cochran has been living and working in the Nashville area for over 25 years. She supervises the skilled Nurse Practitioners who work in our clinics. She has been offering TMS services since 2011 and lectures and consults nationally and internationally about TMS. She is Board Certified and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Mary Strayhorn – Phillips, APRN
Mary, a PMHNP- BC, is ANCC Board Certified as an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with a BSN, and worked for more than 20 years as a registered nurse in general medicine, surgery, hospice care, and psychiatry before returning to graduate school at Vanderbilt in 2006 to obtain a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing.
She has worked in varied roles including community mental health, long-term residential substance use treatment center for women and their children, and college mental health at Vanderbilt University.
Susan Swanson – Moore, APRN
Susan is a Board Certifed experienced psychiatric clinician. She graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing with a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing and was inducted in the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She and Dr Cochran met over 20 years ago. She assisted in the development and operation of the Child/Adolescent Psychiatric program at Parthenon Pavilion Psychiatric hospital many years ago and has worked in many private and hospital practices and taught new nurses at Aquinas College and Cumberland University. Susan is an integral part of the team at NSTMS and is certified to see children, adolescents and adult patients for care.
Lauren Valencia, LCSW, TMS Supervisor & Care Coordinator
Lauren Valencia, LCSW received her Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee College and started with our office in 2013 as a therapist and TMS Coordinator and is the current TMS supervisor. She has been invited to speak at the Clinical TMS Society Annual Meeting in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 and at the PULSES workshop in 2019 (San Francisco & London). Kayla Evans, TMS Operator
Kayla Evans joined our team as a TMS Operator in early 2019 after having been at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for many years and assisting with clinical trials. Kayla is a diligent, cautious individual who works with patients to teach them behavioral activation and CBT techniques while they are receiving TMS care. To reach Kayla, email her, email@example.com
Lauren Vedros, TMS Operator

Ali Tanner Self, LMSW
Ali is a Licensed Masters of Social Worker who achieved her Masters Degree at the University of New England after graduating from Belmont University. A native of the Nashville area, Ali has a background in addiction therapy, family work, adoption, and foster, as well as trauma and DBT. Her certifications include Eating disorder treatment, CBT-i (Cognitive Behavior Therapy for insomnia), and attachment and trauma play work.
Ali’s goal for therapy is to provide a nurturing yet challenging support system, so you feel cared for and seen, while also helping you move away from the place in which you are stuck.

For the last few years, we have selected interns from HandShake (an online forum that connects College Students and employers). Currently, our interns, Brooks Owen and Dean Cochran are helping us face to face in the office with TMS patients in Jan 2021. We are training them in all aspects of the office and hope to have them do some research in the winter months.
Chuck Cochran, MBA, Administrator
Chuck is our back office Administrator. An MBA from Vanderbilt University and a University of Tennessee Alum, you might get a glimpse of him in the office. He is usually tucked away in the back working on accounting, insurance and operations. He is always available to help on any issue when the front office staff is busy or unavailable. Chuck is an experienced Practice and TMS Administrator, and in 2011 was certified as a TMS Operator
Emelyn Davies, Clinic Billing Manager
Emelyn is a Nashville native, born and raised. She excelled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she majored in Spanish and World Business. While involved in numerous activities, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences.
